Anime Week: All Ages Movie Night!

Tomorrow night (Friday, April 12th) at 6:00 p.m. is the first of our two Anime Week movie nights! This first night is an all ages event, and features some light-hearted fun in the form of Love Live! and K-ON!, with the main feature being Studio Ghibli’s Whisper of the Heart. The plan is to show all 3 features with their original Japanese language tracks and English subtitles, but this may change depending on the age of those attending.

Food and drinks will be available free of charge once we get things rolling (hooray for WinCo subs) and things are set to go until 9:00 – 9:30 p.m. at the latest.

Below is a synopsis of each of the features we’ll be showing!

Mimi wo Sumaseba

Whisper of the Heart

From Shizuku Tsukishima is an absent-minded, insecure junior high school student who reads book after book of fairy tales, helps her friends, and does most of her chores, but remains dissatisfied. When she encounters a wonderfully supercilious cat on the train, she follows him and meets Seiji Amasawa, a student in her class who hopes to become a violin maker. Seiji’s commitment to his dream helps Shizuku find her voice, literally and figuratively: she realizes she wants to become a writer.

This movie is so insanely charming that it hurts. It also serves as a bit of a contrast from a lot of Studio Ghibli’s other more adventure driven works. If you’ve never seen it before, and you consider yourself a fan of Ghibli, definitely give it a shot! And if you have seen it before, come join us and fall in love with Shizuku all over again. xD

Love Live!

Love Live! – Episode 01

When Honoka Kousaka discovers that her High School is going to be shutting it’s doors due to a lack of prospective students, she becomes determined to save the school and with it, her cherished high school life style. Finding a method proves to be difficult at first, but after seeing another school’s pop idol group “A-Rise” she seems to have found the answer. Honoka plans to form a school idol group with her friends Umi and Kotori to attract new students, and save the school in the process! Should be easy, right?

K-ON! – Episode 01

From Wikipedia: Yui Hirasawa has just started her high school life, but doesn’t know if she should join a club or not. Fellow student, Ritsu Tainaka is trying to save the light music club, which will be disbanded by the end of April if at least four members cannot be found. Ritsu convinces her friend Mio to join the light music club, and another student Tsumugi — originally intending to join the choir club — also agrees to join. In their search for a fourth member, the three each put up a poster for the club which catches Yui’s eye. Misunderstanding the term “light music”, Yui submits a form only to realize they’re actually looking for someone to play a guitar, which she cannot play. Despite this, the three members try to get Yui to stay.

Will Yui join the light music club, or leave it’s members in ruins!? One of our favorite shows in it’s genre, K-ON! delivers plenty of laughs and giggles, as you follow the girls on their musical high school journey.

Again, the event starts at 6:00 p.m.! Hope to see you there. ^_^
